COFFEE

Coffee. The drink that everybody has in the morning when they are tired. Some people say, "Don’t drink coffee, it will stunt your growth." But really it does not—that is a myth. Coffee has caffeine in it and stimulates the central nervous system. For most people a cup or 2 is enough.

Did you know that coffee does not actually grow in America? Coffee is the most traded commodity on earth. According to www.goodhousekeeping.com, there are 25 million farmers in over 50 countries that producing coffee. Brazil produces 40% of the coffee that we drink, which is twice as much as 2nd and 3rd place holders, Colombia and Vietnam. Hawaii is the only state in the U.S that commercially grows coffee. Kona coffee is the U.S.' gift to the coffee world. Because coffee grows best in climates along the equator. Hawaii's weather is optimal for harvesting coffee beans.

Did you know that coffee actually was a food? Coffee berries were mixed with a fat to create an energy rich snack ball. It was also consumed as a wine when made from the pulp of coffee berries. The first food that was freeze-dried was coffee. The process of freeze-drying, when fresh food is placed in a dryer where temperatures drop to –40 degrees F, first started in World War II to preserve food.

You may or may not know this—I did not—but there are 2 different types of coffee beans: Arabica and Robusta. My parents drink coffee all the time and I never knew that! Arabica is more popular than Robusta. I thought that Robusta would be better because it kind of sounded like barista. I mean that is just what popped in my mind.

Well, I had fun writing this paper and I hope that you got wowed by all these facts. I know I did.
