High School Soccer Rules

According to High school soccer rules and regulations, by Rouge Parris, at Livestrong.com, The National Federation of State High School as Associations in Indianapolis, Indiana, has been making high school soccer rules since 1920. The NFHS gets most of the rules that are set FIFA, the international governing body of soccer. The NFHS makes many different rules like giving red and yellow cards to coaches and players, forbidding the use of Tobacco at the game site, and not allowing stutter stepping during penalty kicks. Here is a list of the more common rules for high school soccer.

The field of play needs to be a rectangle 100 – 120 yards long and 55 – 80 yards wide. The NFHS recommends a minimum of 100 by 65 yards for high school fields and 100 – 55 for junior high school.

Before play starts the home team needs to provide 3 number 5 balls inflated to the recommended pressure.

The game is played by 2 teams of not more than 11 players, including the goalkeeper. Each team chooses a captain. If one of the teams has less than 7 players, the game will have to forfeit.

Each team may substitute any number of players between period's a goal is scored or when a player is injured. They are also allowed on goal kicks or when a player is removed for a yellow card. Each time the incoming player needs to check in with the soccer table.

Players must wear jersey, shorts, socks, shoes, and shin guards no higher than 2 inches above the ankle. The home team must where white socks and jerseys, and the away team all dark colors which started in 2013. All jerseys must be marked with a number on the back at least 6 inches tall and on the front at least 4 inches tall.

The high school consists of two 40 minute periods or 4-20 minute quarters with a ten minute over time. State high school athletic associations may call for overtimes to 20 minutes or sudden victory extra time.

Those are just some of the rules of High School Soccer. I wanted to know what the rules were in high school soccer because I like soccer a lot. I hope you think this was as interesting as I did.
